Lighthouse ahead

Ok, I am now officially multi-tasking again (in quilting terms).  I can't even pretend I don't know how it happened (one tiny project at a time), but I'll go with the flow again for a bit.

The lighthouses are still my main preoccupation though, and no. 3 is done.
A bit shorter and fatter than the first two, but I'm not too bothered about getting them all the same size.  Next up I'm going to try a much shorter one.  I am consistently torn with these: I can see it would be easy to finish them individually and call them wall quilts, but still I keep making with something bigger in mind.  Someone said 'kids' quilts' but I don't have a horde of children beating a path to my door demanding quilts right now and my two are just big enough to have their own ideas on these things, so unless I manage to squeeze in a superhero or two I won't have any takers.

Given that this is about as cute as I'm ever going to get,I'm linking up with Blossom Heart Quilts today for Sew Cute Tuesday.

This is may favorite so far, maybe because it's a little less wonky than the others (take no offense, I'm a traditionalist). In the States there are woven blankets and kitchen towels and hoodies and such that feature a variety of lighthouses. Maybe one of those will inspire your final iteration of the lighthouses.

I am loving this series. I can personally see dense yellow thread coming from the top of the lighthouses casting beams of light around... but that's me. :) It will be fun to see where these take you.

The fun about lighthouses is that each one is different. You could go on forever and never have too many. A lovely series will be the result. Maybe you need a superhero who lives in a lighthouse and flies to the rescue of sinking ships.

Lighthouses come in all shapes and colors. My dad loved them and we never passed on on the road without stopping for a tour, or a photo. I'm not sure what size overall they are...big? I kind of like the idea of a series of wall quilts. I love the randomly bobbing seabirds in this one!

I wasn't sure you were going to carry on with these, but they must have got under your skin! It will be fun to see this quilt develop.

Maybe an improv superhero will be next?

Or that's an idea too!

Wonderful! Just keep making them - their eventual purpose will become clear when the time is right.

I have a feeling these will grow into something spectacular. No, really, a large quilt of some sort. You have started small before and ended big. Besides, they keep getting better. Julie's right, the purpose will reveal itself when the time is right. In the meantime, have fun with them.

No not kids quilt at all . Totally adult . I love how this is taking shape . Feeling quite motivated by this . I started a very traditional boat quilt , not improv at all, years ago , must dig it out .

This is absolutely ten kinds of wonderful.

I second Julie - carry on and make more, then you can decide!

Kids - what do they know! (They'll have you making Minecraft cushions next.) I reckon your short squat one should be based on Pendeen Watch, with it's foghorns! You'll make something much more exciting by putting them all together - less conventional than individual wall hangings. I'm really intrigued how you'll take it forward - they're looking great so far :)

Oh what a wonderful, stormy sky! I think you are hooked now Kaja - and who wouldn't be? Your lighthouses are so fabulous! I won't be surprised at all if you end up making a larger quilt.
You made me laugh about the necessary addition of super heroes if you made a quilt for your two little kiddos.

I'm quite fond of all your lighthouses as I've loved lighthouses for years myself!! Your improv methods are always fascinating!

You could make different sizes and set them up in a perspective view. I am loving these lighthouses! As much as you love the sea, I think you should just keep it for yourself.

There is something so appealing about a lighthouse- I don't know what it is but the appeal seems to be pretty universal. I love this series and look forward to seeing where it goes!

Yes, a big quilt is called for with those fun lighthouses.
