Feeling festive and starting something new...

Have I said that I love Christmas?  Well I do and I'm feeling festive, so I've been working on something cheerful.

My ancient female parent (she doesn't like being called 'mum') had some little cats that she'd made but I guess had fallen a bit out of love with.   They looked like this:

Now they looked fine to me, but on the other hand, what's the point in taking them and then not having a play?  As they sat on the floor (not mess, I was contemplating them) they found themselves with these fabrics:

I can see this working.

On another note I have started sewing my Quilty 365 circles into sets of 9.

I like these too, so it's all good (and yes, a week before Christmas and all my presents are bought and wrapped, so I have been doing other stuff too).

all your presents are wrapped! Awesome. Those cats are too too. Right up my alley. I could fall in love with them. What in the world will you do to them with those fabrics? LeeAnna

I absolutely agree those fabrics belong with the kitties - gorgeous blend of colors and textures!

i have been thinking about piecing my circle blocks into four patches - happy to see you went with 9-patches. Might be a better plan for mine, too.

I still have a few presents left to buy & wrapping paper! I love your colour pull for the cats and thinks this will be a very interesting project to watch in progress!

The kitties will go nicely with your chosen fabrics. Can't wait to see progress on this.

The kitties are charming and fabulous colors. I love the way you used them to create an updated set of fabrics. Go you.
I've been making circles but haven't created sets yet.

I love the kitties, too. I wonder why your AFP lost interest in them, and am glad you have rescued them. Alas, I am far in arrears on the festivity-prep side and not at leisure to sew much. I applaud you on being ahead of the curve!

I can't imagine that your mum would prefer the moniker you chose! As for her cats, they definitely will love those fabrics as they are perfectly matched.

On the other hand, do I remember correctly or not that you were getting sick of nine-patches only a few days (weeks?) ago? Surely that was not you. Regardless, your nine patches are already interesting, so keep going! Oh, and have a wonderful holiday!

Quilty 365 circles reminds me of bokah! Your substituted designation for mum made me laugh out loud. I like where you are going with the kitties. They definitely found themselves with some very pretty fabrics.

Happy Holidays, Kaja!

You make me jealous that you are all ready! These cats are just adorable, can't imagine falling out of love with them, but I think you are spot on (ha, pun intended) with the choice of fabrics to go with them. As for spots, love those blue circles, a great complementary project to the fiery fabrics for the cats!

Ah those cats are so cute! They'll look fab with all those Kaffe Fasset fabrics too, and how good is it to have an "ancient female parent" that likes to sew creatively. My mother (I don't call her 'mum' like everyone else, well like my brother and sisters that is - I've become way too Cornish after 33 years!) has buggered off on holiday to Spain this Christmas - she's probably taken her knitting with her, rather than any sewing :) Aaand, are you trying to put me to shame?! I said I'd be piecing my circles as I went along - and how many have I done? Precisely 3. 3 circles that is, not 3 9 patches! You're very impressive, and don't they look good together?

LeaAnna, I can definitely see you doing something with the cats!!

These cats are so cute! As I lay my circles out to photograph them, I am thinking that I should start putting them together. I am less likely to lose them that way and it won't be as tedious to put them together. I was thinking of making rows of 14, but now after seeing yours, it might make more sense to put them together in months, like a calendar. I just love the way you put your circles together, adding those bits to make everything fit.

Ditto re:the blue circles Sandra. They remind me of midnight in Sweden ☺ expensive but beautiful! The nine patch looking good Stephanie. Can we start any time? I would most definitely like to try it. Any tips?

Sweden not the patches 😃

What size are the squares Stephanie? Are the size specific or can I play around with them?

I got a good chuckle out of the "ancient female parent" comment. It does look like you have been having fun, and congratulations on being so prepared for the holiday!
