Of soup pots and quilting

I guess most people will know a version of the story about the old woman and the soup pot that was never empty.  Well, I was coming  to think this quilt was like that, only in reverse.  I quilted and I quilted but it was never done.

But the end is in side, though still not close.  I have one big piece across a corner and then just the bits around the edge.  So I am pushing on.
I have been looking at it so long I've genuinely got no idea of whether I like it or not.

Just as I am struggling to get back into the swing of stitching post holidays, I am struggling with blogging, so I am linking up with Slow Sunday Stitching in an attempt to just get on with it.  I'm thinking that checking out what other people are doing might help me to regain some momentum.

I am currently at a stage of quilting on a project that has me feeling so much the same way. I both have more quilting to do and need to rip out some quilting in a few areas. If I got on with it, I might actually finish it...

I am glad you posted today, as there is hardly anything better than a picture of lovely quilting stitches!

Love your beautiful stitching; we all have dry spells...and you have made SO many projects--maybe a bit of reflection on what you REALLY enjoy doing
in our wonderful fabric world...hugs Julierose

Your stitching is gorgeous; and yes, you still like it, you are just tired of staring at it. It's beautiful!

Beautiful hand quilting! I've got a quilt-in-the-hoop, but haven't touched it in ages!

But such a beauty of a quilt. I love the getting started part, when everything is tumbling around in my head and I'm making plans. I really love the ending part when I can see the results and know I'm almost there, and I push myself so I can see the finished--yeah!--project in all its glory.
Then there's that in-between part. It's not that I hate it, but let's face it, there's not a whole lot of excitement going on. There's only one thing for it: keep trudging along. You know you'll get there but getting there is not as much fun as getting off or getting back. I'm sure this is when quilters put it away and try to forget about the drudgery. This quilt is too pretty to become that, so get yourself in motion! Here's hoping for a better week!

I do so enjoy looking at your quilting!! I think a lot of us have a period of struggling with blogging, for various reasons and I think we find another gear!

I like the way this is going. I'm sure it will be wonderful when you've finished; yours always are! I have a hand-quilting project that is dragging on too. I seem to have more urgent matters to attend to. Perhaps I should join the Slow Sunday Stitchers too.

You truly are a lovely quilter. All your stitches are so neat and even. I think this quilt is lovely. Hand quilting does take a long time, doesn't it.

You're making great progress. That last bit always seems to be a hurdle for me too, but then the momentum builds and all of a sudden you are done.

I love that double row of stitching / all over pattern, but it is not for the faint of heart! But you will get it done and after a little vacation from looking at it all the time I imagine you will feel really good about it?! Actually for mr looking at it makes me want to get out my hoop and do some hand quilting, so thanks for the inspiration! cheers!

Your quilt is lovely. That picture is so comforting and inviting to me.
I know that place of being done with a quilt but not being done! I tend to not like my quilts by the time they are finished. It's only when I see the quilt later and find myself amazed that I actually made it. Weird, huh?!

Thanks for your transparency with the struggle.

Take care,
pam

I suspect when you can step back from the quilt sans hoop, you will very much LIKE your project. I totally understand the tug of love-hate when you are working on something. Happy to find your post today -- one step at a time, you'll be posting more often again.

Well, I love it! I am thinking about using double or triple lines on my Texas Star quilt. I find posting on Sundays is a great way to keep blogging and the benefit is you can see what others are slow stitching!

It's difficult to find a way to push through sometimes, and I totally understand your statement about not knowing if you even like it as you've been looking at it for so long. It sounds as if the end is near, and for me that is motivation. I'm sending positive vibes your way; I hope you fall in love with your project again soon!

You're so close! I love a hand quilting project as it nears completion. So exciting!

How do you keep your quilting lines so straight? Do you use painters tape?
This is a slow time of year. I think we all need occasional time away either from quilting or blogging or both, don't you?

Your quilting looks great! Maybe once you get the quilt done you will fall in love with it all over again.

Love this close up photo of your quilt. Beautiful colours and stitches. Hand quilting a takes long time, but so worth it.
