Two more columns and bad weather

It seems like this quilt is being made two columns at a time.  That seems to be the most I have managed before running out of a) time or b) fabric.  Here's the current progress.
To get to a width I am happy with I need to cover one more floor tile, which I reckon will probably take four, possibly five, more columns.  In the normal scheme of things this would mean a finished top by the end of next week, since this week is fully occupied, but we shall see.

Currently we are more preoccupied with the weather than anything else.  We live about as close to a river as is possible - I've left the blurry edge of the window in so that you can get an idea.
We are in no danger of flooding, thankfully, so watching the river do its thing is fascinating but not scary.  To give you an idea of how high the water has been, the picture below is of the weir.  There should be seven steps but only the sill is visible, to the right.  Beyond our river is a canal, and then everything else that is under water is field.  This is the highest it has been in years.
Of course it's much worse elsewhere, but it is a reminder of how extreme weather is becoming.

The top looks so good!

You are so close to the water! I am glad to know you are not in danger of flooding, but looking at those pictures I would not have guess that! I saw on the news about the flooding in Wales. To have your home flooded is a nightmare. The weather where I live has been mild this winter. We have had 50 days above average temperatures. I have a feeling it is going to be a summer with lots more bugs.

I'm loving seeing this top come together. Can't even imagine working on two long narrow strips at a time, but you are definitely making it work! So glad you don't have to worry about your house flooding. That looks like a lot of water!

Oh, that water looks very close. I'm glad you feel safe; it looks frighteningly close to me. We have lived through many storms but they do seem to be getting worse every year.
At least you can work on your quilt. It looks better every time you post. I love your use of clothing and the colors and prints we actually wear.
And aren't we lucky to have floor tiles! So helpful in sizing a quilt.

The quilt top is looking better and better -- hooray!! And that water - we live near the Mississippi (20 minutes) and our son lives much closer -- it is just above flood stage now and expected to rise/fall several more times this spring. Powerful, magnificent, and terrifying all at the same time.

I am happy to hear that you are not in any danger of flooding. Stay safe. The quilt is "growing" wonderfully! Lovely blend of colours and greys.

Wow what a lot of water!! We have seen coverage on TV here about the weather in the UK and heard from relatives how bad it's been. Hope things go back to normal quickly. Hopefully you've also found a little time to work more magic with your quilt.

This looks a bit scary to me. Water is so powerful. Good you aren´t in danger. For the quilt: I love how it develops. Even if there is a dark-light contrast it seems so soft and warm. Perhaps I will copy your small squares for my quilt.
