AHIQ - share your improv #31

Hard to believe this is the 31st AHIQ link up, and even harder to believe I've managed to avoid the spellchecker changing it to "share your improve" all this time.

Sadly I haven't much to share this time. I have lots of good stuff in my box, but that's mostly where it's had to stay.  I have printed a few more bird names, but frankly I've spent more time on the tram and in the car in the last two days than anywhere near a sewing machine.  I console myself with the thought that it's all stewing away in the back of my head, so this is a creative pause, nothing more.

One thing I have done.  As Patty noted on my last post, this project may end up with some odd-shaped pieces and I am trying to think ahead about this.  The idea was to have one fabric that went into all those places, so I've been auditioning.
Some here are too dark, or too light, or too purple (I will use it in little thin strips), but a couple I quite like.  Some look much better in the photo than I thought they did in the flesh and of course at least one is a scrap, maybe a fat quarter but not much more, which would cause its own problems.  Decisions, decisions!

I feel your pain! With moving to my new job I now spend an hour travel time a day instead of 8 minutes and my time at work is much longer. No more going home for lunch and sitting at the machine for a half hour or so or doing a bit of cleaning. Also when I had to make deliveries for work I could stop at the store and pick up some groceries or get gas if needed. Not any more! I stay at work for lunch and don't really get a lunch hour anymore. It is quite an adjustment, but I still have a job and I am learning a lot of new things. I just need to get better about using the time I have at home.

I do like what you have done so far. The curves kind of remind me of the curves in a double wedding ring with the melon shaped pieces and the four pointed curved piece that joins the melon pieces together. I like the bit darker pieces for the joining fabric. Of course it is harder to tell in a picture, but it looks like you have a lot of good choices!

Sometimes those forced pauses work to our advantage - they've kept me from leaping off a cliff several times and the resulting quilts have been the better for it. Hang in there - you WILL figure it out and it will work out beautifully.

I like your different fabrics. They make me think you're planning to make these into circles with crosshairs. Then I read Patty's comment and see the could adapt to Wedding Rings. Of course, there's still your original sketch. Hmm. Lots of directions to move this.

I love how these wedges are coming along. The fabrics are so dynamic and serious. I have to look at each one individually.

It's amazing what a difference light, angle or method of photgraphing changes the colour in our fabrics, so annoying when that happens. I'm really liking these fan shapes and although it's frustrating not having the time to work on a project I see the wisdom in the comment from Julie, I think I need to take her words on board!

Hmmm...wondering which auditioned fabric you will use. I have a couple of favs too. I don't envy you your time in the car and on the tram.

We all have our preferences don't we? Love to see your version come together. I'm always amazed and a little bit stunned by what you can come up with.:)
