Famous last words

I don't know whether having to clear everything into a box between sessions is always a good thing, but I do like that each time I get a project out I see it with new eyes. So the bits which sat on the left in my last post have migrated onto the right hand side of things today.

You might argue that it's all fairly arbitrary, but in this case I have figured out that I am interested in the placing of the dark yellow bits and for that reason this version feels better to me.  I added another little black strip and two sizes of bigger hourglass.

Virtually my last thought in the previous post was that I had more of the blue floral fabric than I had thought, but it turns out that completely the opposite was true and without realising it I have used every last scrap. I was convinced there was one more piece lurking in the box, couldn't find it, enlisted extra eyes to check but have to accept now that there isn't even one tiny triangle-sized piece left.   I have a couple of sets of blocks pieced but not joined together, then that's the lot.  I have started looking at what else I could introduce to replace it but nothing seems quite right.  I revisited some of the fabrics that were in the initial pull but they all seem a bit too loud or harsh for the way this feels now.  If I can I'd like to keep things soft and gentle.  For now I'll just keep working with what's in front of me, but if I don't add something in I'll just run out of some of these others too.  Maybe there's something in my bag of shirts that will fit the bill.

This iteration feels better balanced to me. Is it big enough you could just stop here?

I'm liking this more and more - especially this version.

Isn't it odd how things can shift so suddenly and what was perceived before is no longer the same. I hope you can find the right balance of softer materials to continue growing this project.

So interesting to hear your thought process. It's always fun to hear what someone thinks about what they are doing because they are the ones with the project vision. Maybe someone else has some scraps of the blue floral. What is the line and designer?

I think more of those dark gold fabrics would pull it together? Just thinking...hugs, Julierose

I like the way you've laid it out this time. I used to need to put work away and like you, found it helped even when I groused about the effort. So sorry you haven't more of the floral but it will push you to something even better.

How frustrating to be out of the floral! I like this layout, particularly the long dark stripe on the LH side and the larger sized hourglass, what is the size at the moment?

Like this layout better too and love the different feel of this one to others, it's 'lighter' not in colours but has almost a 'fragrant' look lol
That gold seems to intrude to me for no good reason other than it draws my eyes to it, when the overall effect seems to me to be a floral fragrant cottage garden border with stems here n there lol
Wierd brain mine sorry lol
Am sure the hold will meld beautifully by time you've finished, you always manage to find but of magic that makes everything look perfect together!

Tidying up for me is fatal, I can never find where I've put things after I tidy stuff away for more than a day or two lol
Cat brought a weeny mouse in the other day and I was chasing cat, chasing mouse and all the time thinking ... don't let mousey hide amongst all that fabric behind the storage curtain... I will have to haul it all out lol
After my colliding with the ironing board, upending the iron I got cat with mouse in mouth and sent them both thru the back door airbourne! Phew lucky escape for me and mousey ... he scuttled off to live for another hour at least!

Maybe things will have to get a little bit brighter as they move outward. I love the dark stripes and that pinky fabric is very nice.

I do liked this layout...on my screen, it looks very light and summery. Maybe more of the light yellow, lavender and green stripe if you have it and less of the gold. Is this large enough for a table topper or something useful to you?

I like this. Thanks for sharing your process.

I don't know how many times I've said something in a post, and ended up doing the opposite soon after! Oh well, the great thing about your approach is that it is easy to fold in a new fabric as you go. I've been thinking a lot about "Kaja style" lately. Which may be surreal for you, I imagine!

I'm looking forward to seeing what you can find in your bag of tricks. I mean shirts. Bag of shirts. I bet you'll surprise us with something we would never have thought of, but it will be just right.

Hope you find something in your shirts that will work. Running out of the blue floral will push you in a direction you where not planning on! As Tim Gunn from Project Runway would say "Make it work."

This quilt has been speaking soft words of encouragement to me. Its so original and would make an awesome baby quilt with the soft tones. I'm sure you will find the perfect shirts for this one.

Oh - wonderful. I am excited about the idea of using the paintbrush instead of a stamp pad! I bought my letter stamps the other day and now I can't wait to go try them. THANK YOU!!
