Take a break, take a breath

I rather like the rhythm that Slow Sunday Stitching gives to my week, and this week the break from machine stitching is particularly welcome, as recent incidents mean I have temporarily fallen out of love with the latest project.  So I am focusing on quilting today.  I  am still working on the scrappy strips.  Originally I thought I would start quilting my circle quilt and just do this one on a more ad hoc basis, but I've made really good progress so have decided just to press on.

I also finished my skirt.  Actually I finished it two weeks ago but it's taken me all this time to accept that there's never anyone around when I need a photo taken. I've resorted to photographing myself in the mirror.  The first attempt, standing on the bed, was blurry, the second, sort of squashed in beside a wardrobe door is maybe a bit better.

Without me in, it looks like this.

This is the third time I've tried this, and I still can't get over how totally satisfying I find it to know I can make an entire garment with just a needle and thread.

Oooh, I've not seen either of these before (have I?!?!) and I love them both! You put me to shame Kaja, you really do. That skirt of yours is gorgeous, so creative. I've always loved wearing stuff I've made myself - the thought that I really won't bump into anyone else wearing the same thing is very satisfying! Look forward to seeing some more of this string quilt too :) x

What a lovely skirt! I can see it has good weight and drape, too, it must feel good to wear it. Some great fabrics in your strip quilt also -- I hope it will be quite therapeutic while you reconsider your other project! Some idea will come to you. :D

I do like a straight line in the centre of a stripe. It's even better when hand quilted like yours. :-)
What a lovely skirt! So creative. It drapes beautifully. Pinned

Love your hand quilting on the scrappy strips quilt! Your skirt does look like a great success, it's been a while since I made clothes!

Ah what a great skirt. Love how your hand work really adds so much to it! I love when a quilt sucks me in and I just can't stop stitching on it.

Your quilting is very nice. I really like the use of different colored threads. I'll have to keep that in mind for a future project. Your skirt is absolutely fascinating. I wish I could touch it.

I quite understand why you decided to take a break after your cat input ! Love the skirt . I find it really difficult to take a selfie of me in an outfit. I cut out and tacked a Liberty fabric skirt for my daughter this morning but I know I'll machine sew it

Two beautiful handwork projects. I love the skirt! How fun that you can wear it out and look in your lap and see your stitches. I'll bet you'll get lots of compliments on this one!

I love your skirt. It looks wonderful on you. And it looks so comfy. Can't believe you made it all by hand. Did you feel a connection with the past?
