Today I like the postman

Happy mail today, of two varieties.

Firstly, I admired LeeAnna's coasters before Christmas and look...

They look so pretty I think I might hang them on the tree next year. Thank you, LeeAnna!

Next up, I have been thinking about text on quilts for a while now and had a particular idea I wanted to play around with.  I don't know why but the idea of piecing letters didn't grab me and anyway I think wouldn't work for what I want, so I have been looking around for an alternative and I found this on ebay (I love ebay)...

Inside the box...

All the letters, upper and lower case, large and small numbers, and lots of little extras like ''Best Buy" "Best Quality" and "Today's Price".  The ink is dried up, but I am already planning to make my own ink pads with textile friendly ink. First dictionaries, now letters - there may be a train of thought going on here and in case you can't tell, I am excited again!!!

What a great find: good luck with the ink. A nice detail: the Cadbury's tins having been recycled for the ink pads(?) originally held chocolate bars for 3d! Did the previous owner have a sweet shop?

Great idea! Curious to know what "textile friendly" ink you will use. I have had good luck with Tsukeniko pigment inks for fabric.

Wow, I am very envious of your letter set, Kaja! That is going to be endless fun. I have used Tsukineko ink too, in a painterly fashion. It's an interesting idea to use it as a stamp!

Oh, that is very exciting. I've had pretty good luck doing stamped prints with Jacquard Textile paints (Neopaque, Lumiere). Have not experimented with ink (though they make ink too) but the paints leave a fairly soft hand, and are washable. Don't know if you can get them there but I'm sure there are plenty of other similar options! Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Love those letters - I bought a fabric paint and some stamps last november with trees and leaves and I am so looking forward to a weekend with nothing on so I can take over the kitchen and just play with them! Can't wait to see what you do with the letter set!
