Progress report

First off, I want to apologise to all those whose blogs I visit.  I have not been managing to look at/comment on much, but am hoping to get back to it soon.  The cricket season has started.  If you knew my family, you would understand that everything else now takes a back seat until September and that the sport will expand to take up all available space.  It's fun, and a bit mad, but I scrabble around to fit my stuff in.  I'll get it sorted though.

I have chugged along with this where and when I could.  I added the little pointy bits top and bottom.

Of course that doesn't help me make things wider, but I like them.

Then I turned to the sides.  I wish I had read in time Patty's comment on my previous post, which suggested using the same shapes but in a different colourway.  I think that's a fabulous idea and shall be tucking it away for future quilts.  Instead I have been working away with the few curved pieces I had left over and pinwheels.
Where I have big enough scraps, I am cutting squares instead of sewing them into the pinwheels: it breaks things up but is also the most efficient use of what I have left.  If I have enough fabric, I am going to do one extra row of squares/pinwheels top and bottom, but that will have to wait until I'm nearer the finish line.

That's a great suggestion from Patty to file away for future play. I like the way the expansion on the sides is coming together. I like that some of the curves are partial units a lot!

I'm liking where this is going. Love those 2 accidental(?) arrows in the upper right and lower left.

I really love those cute little pinwheels! I remember when I took at class from the ladies of Gee's Bend and one of them asked me how big I was going to make my piece. I said "until I run out of the fabrics I have." She smiled and approved of my answer.

I like the look of those side pinwheels you've added. I like having some kind of constraint when it comes to making a quilt (like having a limited amount of a certain fabric, or deciding to use only certain fabrics, etc.). It leads to all sorts of interesting, creative decisions. Of course, you know this better than anyone, and that's why I love watching you work! :)

You are really getting into a good rhythm with this now! Love the partial pieces and little spiky bits too.:)

The Cricket madness sounds like a lot of fun. My daughter's in the thick of ballet. One son and her daughter are both involved with the upcoming performance of Cinderella. She's constantly in the car or waiting outside the studio. Those days are past for me, the music, the sports, but I have some great memories. Enjoy it while you can.

Enjoy cricket. The quilts will always be here for us. I love your use of darks more and more as this quilt grows. Add more mediums and lights just showcases them better.
