Two blocks challenge: done and dusted

My piecing has slowed down this month, but at least my quilting has benefited.  Here's the quilt I made for the AHIQ two-blocks challenge.
I bound it with a really pretty Monaluna print that, honestly, I would have liked to use for something else, but of all the options I tried it was the best by quite a distance, so binding it became.

I started this on 25th April and finished piecing on 27th June 2017.
Started quilting on 1st October and finished on 29th November this year.
The wadding is the 70/30 all recycled mix that I am using for most of my utility quilts and it was quilted with this handquilting thread, which was new to me.  I was perfectly happy with it, though to be honest I bought it mostly because it came on wooden reels rather than plastic.

Mr SewSlowly says it looks "old-fashioned" in a way that leaves me not entirely sure if that's a compliment or not, but I like it a lot. The thing I like the best is that it is a finished quilt, in a year when finishes have been few and far between!

The binding is a great frame for it. It looks ready for a good snuggle!!

Lovely and inviting. Looks like you are looking across the bay with many sailboats.

I can see why you used that fabric for the binding. It really makes the quilt shine. Nice finish!

I think it is perfectly wonderful!!!

I agree with Mr. SS. This looks old fashioned in a wonderful way because the colors aren't neon bright. Red white and blue is fabulous but usually ends up looking like a flag. But I love the little flags you added to your Housetop blocks. Congratulations on a great finish.

That's a beauty for sure and the binding color, perfect choice.
With all the blues the binding looks coral and coral is a favorite of mine.

I like the way it looks "utility". When I say it, it is a compliment!

It's a wonderful quilt... a fun colour combination, and I like the lines created with the dark fabrics in the log cabin blocks and the mostly vertical stripe fabric.

Many congrates on the finish! It is a lovely quilt. And I'm always impressed when someone finishes a hand quilted quilt. Those are pretty thin on the ground everywhere. cheers!

I would take it as a wonderful compliment. The shirting fabrics, the classic log cabin piecing, the scrappiness--it all adds up to such a lovely, cozy looking quilt. I adore this one. Sincerely. You are always such an inspiration! I'm still admiring the little pops of color in the triangles. They add so much zest to the quilt! And your binding is a beautiful addition. I'm like you, always wanting to use a less important piece of fabric for the binding, but like you say, sometimes there is no other choice. And really, why would we put so much time and effort into a quilt only to cheat it on the binding if it needs a little extra oomph right there?:)

A wonderful finish, and I like the print and the colour for the binding. A perfect frame. "old-fashioned" does not always have to be bad, I would take it as a compliment.

I love this! I guess we all see things differently, it's very scrappy vintage to me, and the binding is perfect for it. And all your hand quilting is amazing, so inspiring!

Beautiful quilt Kaja! I agree with other commenters that it does have a wonderful old-fashioned look, I could see this in the Roderick Kiracoffe book along with all the other beauties.

One of my favorite things about this quilt is the beautiful mix of colors and the sense of combined blocks the centers with the log cabin look and then the randomness of filler blocks.
How is it possible that a quilt top can look great then look so much better after being quilted. It amazed me every time. Especially with your lovely hand quilting.

You just keep on coming up with these amazing quilts. Another splendid finish. It does have an old-fashioned aesthetic but in such a wonderful way. Every piece of fabric looks perfect where you have placed it....amazing really! The binding fabric is a perfect choice and your quilting is superb.
