Scrapping the bottom of the scrap barrel

For once this quilt played nice and yesterday I had a happy couple of hours just quietly chugging away without too many dilemmas.  I went from this
 to this.
But now the fun starts.  The photos are a bit misleading in terms of proportion and in real life this is not long enough by maybe 6 inches or a bit more.  At the moment it looks slightly squat, which doesn't please me.  However, I am about out of most fabrics.  I have plenty of dark blue, and of the lilac and dark green in the little squares and I have about ten squares , mostly of the light blue shirting and the plaid, cut and not yet used.  No more of the white sashing shirt though.

The obvious answer would be to work with the dark blue, but I am wondering if having too much dark at the bottom might mess the balance of the whole quilt.  I'll probably tinker around just to be sure but failing that I guess I either have to look for another fabric or consider doing something completely different across that bottom strip.  For now, I'm letting it stew.

this is coming so well--what a puzzler when your fabric amount keeps going down..I often think of old-timey quilters who had to "make-do" -- letting the quilt "stew" is a good plan...or as my Grand-mere used to say "we'll just sleep on it for a bit" hugs, julierose

I could see adding dark to the top and bottom to balance or just across the bottom to give it "weight". I look forward to seeing how you decide to proceed!

You will come up with something brilliant.....I just know you will. I am loving this quilt!!

Yes, like Julierose said, 'making do' and 'letting it stew' are both good plans.
It always amazes me how well those two can get the design juices flowing.

With stewing and playing around a bit, I am sure you will come up with a solution.

It has been so enjoyable seeing this lovely quilt progress Kaja, not too far to go now. I bet whilst it's stewing you'll suddenly hit upon a solution.

Yes, a lovely quilt. With your stamping expertise, what a out adding a line or two? You will come to a wonderful solution whatever you do.

I have had a hard time 'seeing' the entirety of this quilt, but as always, you are pulling it together in all the right ways. I would love to see it up close and in person as I'm sure there is a subtle richness to it that the camera is not catching for the pictures.:)

I love when you say: but now the fun starts. When I ran out of fabric I panic first but normaly it is a start to creativ solutions. How does the stewing go? Done? Looking forward to see what you will do...
