Finished the sashing...
and added a border.
I know this looks slightly heavy but I'm sticking with it because a) it will be thinner by the time I'm done and b) I'm thinking I'll use this fabric again to do another round.
What I wanted to do next was some version of this:
But...nothing I've tried looks right between those squares. I've tried squares of the fabrics I used for sashing, I've tried a couple of random prints, but nothing looks as good as the floor. Funny, I'm sure I've said that before. Next step, I guess, is to go and have a rummage in my boxes again; maybe I've got some scraps of solids that would be big enough. I'm trying to crack on now before things close down for Christmas so fingers crossed I can come up with something that works.
Linking up again:

These circles look superb all put together. I think you are going to have to buy a bolt of fabric that matches the floor, so that every time you say that, you will have the perfect fabric.
I like how the intricate piecing is the circles and that the prints are adding in other shapes to the mix. I hope you find the right solution for the spaces between the next circles.
I'd like a yard of "floor color" please . . . can't you just hear the sales clerks?!? (I happen to agree that the floor color looks wonderful)
I agree about the floor. Why don't you use squares of the darkest grey solid you can find? I like the arrangement of circles within the squares, and the arrangement of squares. It looks as if you planned it that way from the start!
I LOVE what you're creating with your circle blocks!!! Good luck with the next border. I know you'll come up with something wonderful!!
O, so nice. I love the circles..so intricately pieced.
Ha! I was thinking, before I read the next part where you said it, "the floor is a nice color for in between." It's looking good.
The "blocks" of floor fit in very well indeed!
When I first got to the picture with the border I said "oh my!" but after I went to the next picture with the round of single circle blocks my reaction was "yes, that border will work!". I can't wait to see what you come up with to add to the single circle blocks! The dark floor does look good!
Intriguing, but I'm counting on you to work your usual magic and take it to a new level, I can feel it coming.
Fantastic, love the edging idea too.
Thats a gem of a quilt girl!
The sashing and inner border you chose is perfect Kaja. I would be really stumped for what to put between the squares as well. And yes the floor color is a good choice, LOL.
I think the floor is telling you to use something that reads solid, but I am not sure it is telling you to go so dark. I would consider a medium-value or lighter solid, or shot cotton, or more of the shirting (like chambray??). Can you rip off another shirt from your hubby? You could get him a new one for Christmas!
I like it with just the border. The blocks outside are too much of a good thing.
The wow factor is really jumping! I like those outside circles with the floor, too. Shasta has the best idea: buy some fabric that matches the floor. It's perfect! But buy enough...maybe a bolt will do.
I love those plaid sashings and border, they are working well on many levels. More shirtings for the gaps, would be my vote. Looking good!
I think the plaid is inspired! I like the contrast between the rhythm of the grid and the circles a lot. It's going to be a really snuggly quilt this one.
