What have I been saying about a lack of rhythm at the moment? Today I laid out all my 9 patch blocks, moved them this way and that and decided that I quite liked them like this.
I get the argument for placing the red squares symmetrically, or in a cross, and did look at that, just couldn't bring myself to do it somehow. However, having spent all that time fiddling about, I promptly sewed them together wrong: the top left red shouldn't be in that corner at all. So now I have to unpick. Bah humbug.
In view of the fact that they are making people's vision blur, I have decided to have a go with sashing to break them up. I often like other quilters' sashing but haven't really used it myself, so these seems like the moment to give it a go. I may even try a border next.

Hopefully the unstitching and re-sewing goes quickly! :)
Unpicking is always depressing, but it's got to be right! Glad you're not doing them symmetrically - they look happy as you've got them.
The checkerboard flannel quilt that I finished last month - well, I got an entire row out of sequence! I decided I could live with it and didn't bother to rip it out. When I look at the picture of it I can't even tell the goof, but the colors were not as distinct as your blocks are so I can understand why you would want to fix yours. I do like the sashing in between the 9 patch blocks.
This has come together so well . I am at pains to say this , but I do prefer the red square in the top left corner . You really have done very well with this quilt
Said that wrong - I prefer the red block not in the top left corner !
Like a whole lot and am glad you are unstitching! Awesome sashing plan!!
So pretty! I like the idea of sashing. In the top photo, your dark floor gives a dramatic sashing-type effect, and I even like the slight wonkiness of it. Of course, your plan is sure to be just right, as you have a very keen eye.
Interesting.
I become as grumpy as you when I mis-sew. Better to fix it than let it bother you forever. The quilt will outlast us after all.
A very striking quilt in it's simplicity.
Bah humbug? A little ripping out is nothing for such a pretty quilt. I love the way you've arranged the blocks. The nine patches look great with the sashing. You've hit on a great idea, as always.
Purfect! Love it : )
Oh so frustrating to sew it together wrong at this point! Working with sashing is very interesting in regards to what you can make it do for a quilt. I personally love sashing so I say go for it!
I like your layout best Kaja, not symmetrical! Hope the unpicking went well!
sashing? borders? Kaja, it's a slippery slope now to a Baltimore Album! lol
