Leaving the city for now

So this is Inner City, which is about to join my  quilting queue.

I've added dark borders top and bottom, and did think about doing the sides too, but like it like this (and ran out of steam a bit).  Obviously until I start quilting I can always change my mind, but for now I'm calling it done.

So now I've got a bee block to make and some tidying up to do (!) and some thinking about what next. There are a couple of things in the pipeline but first I'm thinking of putting in more time on the denim, just for a week or two, to see if I can figure out where that needs to go.

Wow, it's just fantastic. You've picked some excellent colour combinations and I'm admiring your improv! You've done a really lovely job and I look forward to seeing how you quilt it. Jen

A fantastic quilt. Have you got a pattern? Or did you just doing it your way?

Kaja, my heart just took a little thrill ride because of this wonderful quilt! I am in love with everything about it! The darker log cabins were a great addition. It has been a delight to check your blog and watch as your Inner City took shape! You could seriously put this in a show... that is if your son can bear to wait for his fabulous quilt.

This one is just so intriguing. Those dark borders on top and bottom add a lot to the dimension effect, with a really nice open feel on the sides that look great with the red strips on those edges. Very successful improv top here!!!

It has been fun to watch this quilt grow, and the finished top is gorgeous! I agree with your decision to have the last dark border only top and bottom. I'm curious if you already know how you will bind it. Maybe that isn't a fair question since you don't yet know how you will quilt it. I agree with Lara that it is show worthy.

If grand son number one doesn't want it you won't have trouble if you send it this way.

I really like how the fabrics and patterns in this quilt play off one another. My first impression was how urban this top feels, but this was almost immediately followed by a feeling of trees woven into the landscape. Fantastic!

Your quilt is so unique. Love the way you listened to the quilt to tell you what to do next.:)

I really like your borders. Love the "interrupted" reds and the darker patches top and bottom. It's very interesting to me how much this quilt looks like a satellite view of a large city. Great job, Kaja! Wish I could see it in person someday.

Oh wow! You've really finished it up beautifully! Those borders are perfect. I can't believe how quickly you finished it. Just a few days ago you were adding pieces to the red border. The city scenes work fabulously well with the other blocks.
I'm anxious to see what you do with the denim pieces. You are so good at listening to your pieces that the denim could take you in lots of directions. That's going to be interesting!

It is stunning! I have to admit I couldn't see how it was going to go to start with, but it's wonderful, and so original.

I absolutely love it! I had to go back and catch up a bit, and enjoyed seeing the upper and lower border blocks in process. Love the fabrics you used in those. I wish I could see the whole thing in person and up close. I'm sure there are a lot of subtleties to be appreciated, and even more after it's quilted. It is really a wonderful work!

It looks so good.

I agree that it is done. The dark borders at the top and bottom give it weight. Adding onto the sides would detract. It is a fantastic quilt. A work of art.

Fabulous finish! I really like the darker borders at the top and bottom, and I love the sprinkling of color across the quilt. I'll miss seeing it show up in your posts, but I'm looking forward to seeing it again after it is quilted. Meanwhile, I'm eager to see where the denim takes you.

Oh Kaja, what can I say other then bloody well done!!! It's fantastic, it feels as busy, bustly and exciting as a city and I think those top and bottom borders ground it perfectly (really don't think you need to add any to the sides). That's one lucky boy you have there!
