Things have been coming and going this week. I have a few photos but also took loads of duds (for simple, technical reasons that were my own fault). It went something like this.
Pinwheels reinstated, more pinwheels made.
I don't think they belong there, though. What about this?
Nope, that's not working for me either. I'm trying to concentrate on this one area - so how about moving those quarter-ovals around a bit? I know this looks like a hot mess, but it is a good example of how it looks most of the time when I'm working.
Hang it, let's ignore what I just said and do something right up at the top and on the other side...Now this, I'm happy with.
For those who are interested, the thing I have struggling with is the balance between still and busy in this piece. Also, I have been thinking about the straight sides of my ovals: if they sit on their own, instead of in sets of 4, what happens on those edges? I have some ideas but things that seem possible often aren't pleasing me. Just to be contrary though, I do like the row of pinwheels butting up to the quarter-oval in the top right corner. Now, my brain was pretty sure that wouldn't work, yet my eyes don't mind it at all. We live and learn.

Decisions. Decisions. And one can't decide unless it is seen altogether. You fascinate me how you can always come up with something new.
I think it's also the softer purple pinwheels up on the right. The darker pinwheels next to the darker fabric, the lighter ones next to the lighter fabric?
I like that even if your brain doesn't think it will work you give it a try to see how it really looks and feels. The spikey elements and pinwheels are a really nice compliment to the round shapes.
It sounds like you are starting to make some progress on this. I don't think you can go wrong no matter how you add to this.
Oh my goodness, Kaja, what an interesting piece. I can see why you have to try out different layouts with these amazing designs. The pinwheels are a nice geometric counter to the curves. Happy stitching from me.
Fun with design! Good contrast going on here!
You have a winner with your new arrangement of the pinwheels, they balance with the other elements beautifully and lead in to the quarter oval. I can see that it could be tricky coming up with a way of finishing off the half ovals, could another strip of pieced elements come down left side?
I think that top corner works because the curves are mostly mediums. The few bits of your darks stand out beautifully. Using only a small amount in the the pinwheels is very effective. The tiny triangles break up the dark well, too.
Always interesting to see what you're doing.
How about on the straight side of the half ovals growing some of the little spikey triangles out of the oval in the same fabric as the inside of the oval?
Love the way you experiment..... the fabrics that you use together are so 'you'! Am trying to be more courageous in my choices.
I'm loving the controlled play of colour in this, leaving all your elements (pinwheels, tiny triangles & the ovals) to do the interesting work!
