Oops, we're locked down again...

No sooner do I get started than life conspires to make things tricky again. We are locked down and home schooling again.  I shall try very hard not to get derailed this time, though I guess, realistically, this will slow me down somewhat.  On the bright side, today I concentrated on quilting, since it is easy to pick up and put down repeatedly.  Also, I can talk/help with lessons and quilt at the same time.  Maybe this will be the year I finish all my WIPS.  Or even just a couple. That would be a pretty good outcome, I think.

I'm not giving up on the piecing just yet though.  On Monday, when it was still considered 'absolutely safe' for my kids to be at school, I added one column on the right hand side.

I have a pile of little houses, which I thought might go across the top, but I don't like them as much next to each other as I do in vertical strips, so now I'm playing with other options.

If I still like this next time, I'll sew the bits together.

I'm also starting to ponder my scraps, in preparation for Ann's AHIQ QAL.  I have never (no, never) participated in one of these before, since doing what I am told isn't really my quilty thing. But I do love a nice string block and I know it will be okay to veer off piste if that's what I want, so I'm looking forward to it.

Even if I can't find opportunities to piece, I can definitely sneak in a moment or two to root around in the scrap boxes.

I'm not going to make a quilt that looks like Ann's - I'm going to make a mini with the tulip medallion and then another with the Electric Socket blocks (autumn oranges etc.). Improv wouldn't be improv if we followed directions (grin).

Sending you a lot of love and a wish for navigating a balance with needing to be homeschooling for safety again. I do love seeing your progress as you have it. I personally won't be sewing again for a while, I have a house to remodel and a sewing space to build!

These colors are striking. Just the joyful note we need now.

Good luck quilting and teaching/coaching. I remember a college friend telling me her mother sat at the table while she and her brother did homework. The mother didn't speak but anytime they lifted their heads, she "glared" at them. And they both got advanced degrees.

Veer off any direction you want. The QAL is just some pointers for a block with wedge-shaped strings. It will be more fun to see where everyone takes this.

The pandemic just keeps lingering on and on trying all of our patience. Hang in there! I like the new strip in the right very much. You have a wonderful eye for using color and shape to balance the elements without looking like you tried at all. I know better and know you sweat over every detail!

Oh Kaja, I do feel so sorry for the situation in the UK! It must be horrendous and why BJ didn't take strong action early I can not understand. Also the children going to school when Covid was raging!
Anyway, I shall get off the band wagon and revert to quilting matters.
I do hope you're able to carve out some time for your quilting, it has been so good to see you back blogging. I'm looking forward to the AHIQ QAL and must give myself some time to raid my strip box. Take care and you and the family stay safe!

I am sorry to hear that you are back in lockdown. This see-saw-ing of Covid seems to still be the world's way. LOVE what you have imagined thus far. Love those little houses and the sweet birdies. Another fabulous quilt in the works. So happy to visit you once again. I too, am a gal who doesn't like to be told what to do when quilting. Good luck with that. =)

I am also sorry to hear about your new lockdown. We seen to expect it all the time here. Mostly we just try to stay safe and, it's terrible to admit, stay away from people.
I am anxious to sit at a sewing machine or the long-arm. Anything! At least I can work on my boro jacket project. That is a bit soothing, I suppose.
Do what you can to enjoy both quilting and the kiddos at the same time. I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with for the AHIQ QAL. (That's a lot of letters!)
