Next quilt in the hoop

Having just made an entire quilt, from first cut to last stitch on the binding, in a matter of months, I'm back to quilting something that's been waiting a year.  I'm hoping to keep myself motivated with my quilting: it had definitely slipped a bit but I'm much happier when I keep things ticking over nicely so I shall try not to be so easily distracted.  My Chinese Coins, made for the first AHIQ challenge, was top of the pile, sticking to chronological order, so that's what's in my hoop now.
I don't remember the last time I did this, but I am using actual, proper, quilting thread rather than perle or wool or variegated Sulky 30.  I had picked up a reel of a Gutermann thread in a rather lovely brown-y shade - don't remember when or why - but it seems to sit nicely with the rather muted colours of the top, so I figured, why not?
I'm marking the pattern freehand, so it's a kind of wonky grid. The lines are mostly relatively straight,  but the size of the boxes they make varies quite a bit.  It seems to go with all the different sizes of stripe.

Linking up with Kathy, just to show that I am still Slow Sunday Stitching.

The brownish color of your thread gives an "old-fashioned" look. Very nice!

Except for the first guide line I usually quilt freehand (by eye that is). Very pretty coins' quilting you are doing. I am resting the arm today--no quilting for moi...maybe Tuesday I'll be back and rested...

I like the double grid lines you are quilting. They make a nice texture. I have a hand quilting project that got put on the back burner a while ago...I should dig it out and do some work on it. I think it is close to being done.

The thread color looks perfect for the project. How do you like to divide your time between quilting and piecing during the week?

You make me want to hand quilt! Bottom line is I need to get a project together and get some hand quilting done. I didn't take anything with me Friday night and I just sat at the merch booth with nothing to do; what a waste of time. We don't have another gig until the 29th so between now and then I must get a project together. I like the color of quilting thread. It adds a subtle warmth.

Great idea for quilting and I think the brown-y thread works perfectly.

Ooh, this is one of my very favorites of all yours quilts! The colors really resonate with me. So interesting to see your slightly wavy grid work for the stitching. Great idea.

I really like the quilting design you chose and the thread color. Hand quilting makes it marvelous!

looking really good, I haven't the patience to hand quilt a big project, though I have hand quilted baby or lap quilts. I generally used "standard" thread for quilting, quite often moon thread which is polyester. Sometimes I use gutermann thread which i love. At the moment I am using a spool of aurifil and I must admit I love it, if only it wasn't so expensive.

Beautiful choice of thread, Kaja. Like everyone else said, your lines add interest and depth. Your slow stitching is very inspiring.
