Saturday photos #60

I've been by the sea for a view days and have done a lot of pootling about on the beach, in glorious sunshine, but also in drizzle (there was a fair bit of that), in a gale and in a hailstorm that lasted ten minutes.  This time I started to think about all the plastic I saw: it was everywhere and not just lids and old bottles but endless tiny fragments.  I suppose that as the tons and tons of rubbish we have added to our oceans is battered and worn, we will eventually end up with sand that is made multicoloured by our waste.  As this thought occurred to me I took a quick snap of every piece I could see around my feet...

We have the same problem here in New Zealand Kaja. This is an horrific snapshot of just an area around your feet, it is frightening to think of what we are doing to the oceans and the land with all this plastic waste and other sorts of waste put into landfill to sit there for ever.

That is a lot of trash. It is pretty colorful. It would be nice if it would turn into colorful sand, but as far as I know, I don't think it works that way.

Whilst I love the look of the photos I hate what it represents. We went down to Weymouth last year and visited Durdle Door - the amount of rubbish, of all sorts, was horrendous, both washed in by the sea and left on the beach.

No different here on the California coast. I was taking "macro" shots of various beach wrack one day, and also began to notice the man-made debris. Started photographing that, and a man came up to me and asked me with a sneer if I was photographing trash. I said, yes, I was, among other things. He made a disgusted noise and walked away shaking his head. I have no idea what it was meant to convey. In our area there are a couple of groups that do several organized beach and river clean up events every year.

Colourful but so sad! It's the same everywhere. Wish we would take more care of our home planet.
