Quiet quilt: first big 9 patch

I have sewn together my first 9x9, to get one big block.

I've also been hard at work making the next set of 9 patches, which currently look like this.

Just for fun I put them side by side:

Two things have occurred to me: firstly that I might keep going with the 9 patches and make in total 9 of these bigger blocks, which would give me a reasonable sized end result.  The second was that I rather like the juxtaposition of these two sets, so need to sit down and have a think about how many of the circles I will make and how I will place them as I go. Maybe a little doodling is in order next.

Great color choices! Sometimes if I can't decide where to put things in a quilt layout, I will photograph them laid out on my bed with my Iphone on the black and white setting It helps me see balance
good job!

What a difference the dark mustard makes between them, too. I like how "quiet" the nine patches look beside the pieced block on the left.

This grey/beige combination really is nice, isn't it? You have some nice, subtle textures happening in the pure nine patches. I like the circles, but I'd be cautious with them! In any case, it's going to have a great feeling to it. :D

do you have a vision of where you're going or do you totally just build it little by little? The circles with the hard stripes coming off them in one direction are very dynamic. Then when you add in the scrappy nine patches it pops the gold around the circles. So cool to see the development.LeeAnna

Oh yes! Love where you are going. And your 9-patches with the little slivers of fabric added in are marvelous.:)

It really catches the eye! I like the pop of blue stripes and mustardy colour interspersed with the neutrals.

You're having fun here, good progress.

I like alternating the nine-patch and circle sections; it sets your gold and striped fabrics off even better. Looking forward to the next installment.

Love the impro circles everything looks really scrappy, I love that! Ya, I think scattering the circles around would make an interesting composition. Have fun with that!
