Backs and fronts

Well I managed to waste most of yesterday looking for the box I keep my hand-stitching threads in. Turns out it was in a box in a garage about 10 miles away from me (don't ask) so I achieved exactly nothing on that front.  I decided to try and rescue my weekend by doing some boring but necessary stuff.  I am months away from quilting Inner City, but keeping sorting past its leftovers in my scrap box so I started piecing a back.

I have also been busily making blocks for my Walls piece (still nameless).  This picture, taken halfway through Saturday, shows how much I have got, though they are just plonked down every which way.  The top, bottom, left and right edges here, if I filled in all the gaps, would get me to a reasonable size.  I've made more since, so may just get away with this one. In any case I liked the gold insets so much I am thinking I might include those whether I need them or not.

Piecing the backing is my least favorite part of quilting, so I tend to just use yardage. I really need to make one like yours and use up some of my not so big pieces. What a fun quilt you are creating. The colors are wonderful! It looks like the sun setting on the ocean. Gorgeous!

I too am a huge fan of pieced backs, Walls is obviously not too far of being a complete top and once again I love the lotus leaf from KF in the mix.

So far it looks like that pieced back will go well with Inner City and looks like it just might be a nice reversible quilt.

It always impresses me Kaja, when people piece their backs. At that point in a quilt I am always impatient to get to the sandwiching, so I tend to stick with yardage.
It looks like you had a fruitful weekend afterall!

Love your gold insets so much! I have been learning a lot just by following along.:)

I do silly stuff like misplace my thread all the time. We spent 30 minutes on the side of a highway looking for my thimble once. (I have the most patient, kind husband.) Of course, after buying another, he found the original thimble. My response, "As soon as I get a few more stitches in, this guilty feeling will go away." He still laughs about that.

You inspired me to create a pieced back for the quilt I'm working on now. It's not so bad! Plus, I used fabric from my overflowing stash, which is a very good thing. I liked the back before quilting, and I imagine that quilting will only make it better. Thanks for the inspiration and encouragement!

I think the gold and the Kaffe Fassett fabric brightens up the cool blue/white colors. I would keep it too.

The gold insets are a great addition. Pieced backs is a great way to use up the odds and ends left over from the quilt top.
