Scribbling stones

Not quite sure why, this second wall piece isn't keen to get underway. In fact I'm going nowhere fast.  I don't mind a day or two (or more) of pondering but this time it feels like I need a jump-start.

I usually just start with the fabric, but on a couple of occasions have used little sketches as a jumping off point.  Not proper drawings of a finished quilt (if I did that, I don't think I'd care enough to make it), just doodles really.  I was reminded of this by LeeAnna, and decided to have a play around.

These don't look like much - and may bear no resemblance at all to the finished piece, but it's loosening up my mind and I figure it will be interesting to look back at the end and see if there's a connection.

These remind me of my project sketches - they'd make no sense to anyone else but me ;)

Interesting doodles. I think I should do more of this, myself.

yesssss... are you more interested in any of these than another? I so want to make comments but don't want to interrupt your decision making process... I will not comment til you've decided. This is a precarious stage. An uncomfortable stage but an important one to the design. Keep going. Maybe one more sketch? Next try words next to the sketches, not to go on the quilt itself, but I like to give the sketches some conversation like you were doing with the few you already put on. More descriptive words... you know? Great interesting start. Any of these would do well right? Just none of them jazzes you yet. LeeAnna

It'll be really interesting to see how they influence the final piece.

Doodling inspires creativity.

I will quietly watch this process. Very interested in how you develop a design.

Thats a nice design process. Quick sketches like this really loosens you up creatively. I hope you find that jumpstart.

I haven't seen this stage of your design process before Kaja. You have several very interesting jumping off points here. I do believe in the power of doodling to help unleash your creativity. My daughter just made me a journal and told me "Fill it with doodles!"

You've got my attention...I'll keep checking back to see what develops from your beginning ideas.

Well, another way in which we're alike, Kaja. I like to doodle and "draw" to start up a design. I'm naturally a writer so I doodle and brainstorm words till something happens. I just never know what it might be. Like LeeAnna I don't want to influence you, but there are things I like in your sketches. Keep going and remember to keep us updated on your progress.

I was trying out different stone walls myself for a drawing. I love your doodles!
