Still here, after a fashion, and sewing

I have still not reclaimed my sewing space - in fact I have pretty much had to vacate the house the past couple of weeks, but am feeling generally positive about the changes I can see taking place.  In the meantime I have borrowed a tiny (and I mean tiny) corner in which to try and push on with a bit of quilting.  It looks like this
I spent quite a while before I started sewing looking at the piles of fabric I shared in the last post.  They went back into the bag and came out again, with various changes.  I reached a point where I knew some of the fabrics I thought were definitely in but still couldn't quite get started.  Maybe it was the change in my sewing situation, but maybe it was just that things needed time to simmer quietly.  In any case, eventually, when I wasn't even thinking about quilting at all, a picture popped into my head.  It looked like this:
so I went ahead and made it.  The orange-y fabric had been messing with my head rather, as it is both a strong colour and quite a busy pattern, but pairing it with the dark blues has balanced it out nicely.  The squares are cut freehand but are about 4-4.5 inches, so this feels like the middle of a quilt rather than the outside edges, so I still have to figure out what goes inside and how to build out.  I've never started with the middle before, so this should be an interesting process.

I hope your home improvement project will be done soon so you can reclaim your sewing space. My hat is off to you for carving out a little corner so you can at least be creative. I love checkerboard and I am making a checkerboard t-shirt quilt right now so I am digging your checkerboard frame.

I'm glad to hear you are pleased with the progress you are seeing on your home. I think the orange looks wonderful paired with the navy, and I look forward to seeing how this evolves for you and if these pieces will stay in the middle. :)

Starting in the middle is a VERY different way of making - I find it both interesting and challenging. May the forces involved in your home renovations all be nothing but positive.

This looks like a great start. Isn't it funny how we need to create even when there isn't time or space. Our mind still keeps busy and eventually it all comes together.

Gosh its hard to 'see' at all when the house is stripped back around you I remember that well myself after floods in 2007. You do well to find the mental space let alone physical space lol
But then it can be a luttle are where you (hope to) have some kind of control too LOL
Best of luck and do hope your builders arent like the cowboys I had around. Stick with it girl x

I remember being taught in school that before you write a report, you need to write an outline first. Which is what you have just done here! :o)

Good luck with remodeling. It's hard to do anything else while other people are in the house.
What fun to start in the middle. Four sides the same - looks like something I'd do. ;-)

It looks like the start of a medallion quilt - just without knowing what the medallion will be yet!

We need our fabric in the midst of chaos to bring us some sanity. Good luck.

Very fun! I have worked from the border back to the middle a couple times. Such an interesting challenge. Can't wait to see where this one is going! Such a different approach for you.:)

The "orange-y" fabric does look great with the dark blue. 'Tis good you have found a little creating space within the chaos.

Yes, it does look like the start of a medallion quilt and the orange fabric looks to be coral and that does work out with the dark blue.
Good luck on the remodel project!
