Decisions, decisions

Yesterday evening I thought I knew what I was doing.  Well, to be fair I seldom know exactly what I'm doing, but I knew where I was starting.  I wanted to use this pile of  fabrics, and although I'm still tweaking I'm not far off where I want to be.

I also knew where I was starting with block choice.

But when I pulled my fabrics out today to get on with it they didn't want to co-operate.  In fact they wanted to do something else entirely.  I'm getting the urge to turn them into blocks I hadn't even considered.

Now I'm happy for the quilt to tell me what it wants from time to time, but I've never had one think it could do that before I'd cut so much as one tiny strip and I'm not sure how I feel about it.  I will probably do what I'm told, but would like to maintain at least some pretence I'm in control, so am giving it 24 hours to stew and then I'll decide.

In the meantime, I'm still quilting!  At this rate I'll get a whole quilt finished before I start piecing again.

Linking up today with Linda and Julie for Sew, Stitch, Snap,Share.

  1. I love how much the fabric speaks to you. I am very curious to hear what you wanted, what the fabric wanted, and what you decide to do!

  2. I've never been able to plan out a quilt and seldom give 'the next' a thought while I'm working on the current. The fabric will tell me. Sharyn

  3. Your quilting is looking amazing! Sometimes fabric speaks to us like that. I say just go with it. You'll be more happy in the end, I think.

  7. Does your fabric often argue with ? Ever wake you up during the night to tell you something?

  10. Yeah, that business of a quilter having a plan and a quilt having a mind of its own can be especially sticky. At least you're giving the quilt a fair opportunity to sit up straight and get with the program. Well, something like that, anyway. Have fun!

  11. You crack me up! Yes, some fabric has a mind of its own. It takes a special person to listen.

  12. I can't remember when fabric talked to me that much. I am not sure if that is a good thing or not. I will be interested to see what direction your fabric takes you. Once I get those jeans torn apart I sure hope it talks to me because I am not sure what I am doing with my AHIQ two block challenge yet!

  14. When you choose what feels best, you ARE in control, and generally making the best decisions too. I like these summery fabrics, so I'm glad that's the way you are going!

  20. Your post made me smile, Kaja! The colours look very well together to me. I am looking forward to seeing how the fabrics direct your creativity. In the meantime, great progress on the other quilt.

  21. I absolutely understand that feeling of your materials telling you what they want! I know whatever they say you will interpret it beautifully :-)

Feel free to comment away! I read everything and welcome all feedback. I seem to be getting a lot of comments from no-reply bloggers at the moment - if you don't get a response, that will be why.
