It takes a while, but I get there in the end. I actually got to this point on Monday. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go one round longer but the photos, which of course stretch things out, weren't at all helpful. Since we were in the middle of quite phenomenal rain, the washing line wasn't an option so I decided to hold out for better weather.
Yesterday there was finally a day without a deluge so I nipped out and hung it up. I didn't hang about though, since the grass was still soaking.
I am happy with the results of eking out my dark blue floral: in some places I just replaced it with one of the darkest blue shirtings and in others I used my tiniest scraps to piece squares that are partly dark blue and partly something else. Most of these have ended up in the top right corner.
In fact I am generally pretty happy with this (despite that tiny lingering doubt about the length). It's not at all what I set out expecting to make but I love how it turned out. In fact I'm wondering about doing something else along these lines.
First though, I need to take a breath and get back to my sadly neglected quilting.
It turned out wonderful! I like the randomness and the asymmetrical placement. Great job!

ReplyDeleteA trip through the mist. I like how the diagonals come and go, how they fade out a bit more in the top right, and the different widths of the vertical pink lines. Making the diamonds off-centered was also a good decision. This is a lovely quilt that calls to be used. Congratulations.

ReplyDeleteI find that I do some of my most "creative" work when I have limitations on fabric quantity -- forces me to use the stash in ways I might have thought of otherwise. You did a fabulous job with this one - Congratulations!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty quilt, Kaja! I knew I'd love it weeks ago, but you surpassed that. A gentle trip around the world but not to fast-paced. Sweet, but the dark blue grounds it. And just when I think I have the pattern, one of those pink stripes rains down another element. Goodness, I wish I had your intuition. Even when you struggle, you nail it.

ReplyDeleteI really, really like the way this quilt turned out. The strippy bits and the subtle but very obvious design that shines through. Do you hand cut all your squares and then add bits to make them work or do you cut them all the same and then chop off pieces to add in the strips? I'm always intrigued by where you end up. So inspiring!:)
