Ninety degree turn

Well,  the first thing I did this morning was change my mind and decide that I liked the quarter circle piece I was working on last time better if I rotated it 90 degrees.

This led me to this, adding a second quarter circle plus little flags, which was almost as far as I got and I was pretty happy.

But then I stopped paying attention for a moment and joined the two bits the wrong way round.  See? I'm blogging this before I rectify it because I thought it was interesting: I don't like it nearly as much this way round.  I've been trying to work out why and I think it's a something to do with balance: because the two quarter circles are directly under each other, it creates a heavier feel,  somehow clunkier and less pleasing to the eye.

I shall be unpicking next.

I agree with you. I like the first version much more.

I appreciate that you take enough photographs and evaluate your progress often enough to catch what you like and don't like.

I love your wild combinations of shapes-so interesting to look at. I like how you have disciplined yourself to 3 colors for your complex piecing but choose lots of interesting fabrics within your color range.

You know, I like the little flags. The mix of large and small scale is a good thing.

I had to study the pictures, but I do agree. I like the little glimpses of the quarter circles better when they seem to be going in opposite directions. It is as if they are seen in the corner of my eye, and off-setting them makes it work better. I too admire your willingness to stop and document the process...you always bring us along on the journey, and it is instructive and enjoyable! Carry on!

it's amazing what a little turning can do to the overall picture

I love how this is working out--I always seem (seam haha) to find myself in a jam with blocks..try this, try that, but I have finally come to the conclusion that that is the fun of the process...I really really like those teeny little cross blocks in this one hugs, Julierose

I use digital photos a lot to evaluate my work, too - it is easier to see things in the photos without the rest of the room distracting my eyes. LOVE what you are working on (and I would be unpicking, too).

It really is much better the first way, with the quarter circles balanced. I love the variety in your blocks Kaja!

I really like this design, reminds me of a spase ship image form a SF movie :)
