AHIQ - share your improv #5

Yesterday I unexpectedly had a free afternoon and instead of sewing decided to try playing around with my letter stamps.  I had been meaning to do this for ages (well, ever since I got them) yet for some reason had been putting it off, maybe in case it was a bit disappointing when I got to it.  But I have an idea, so no more procrastinating; time to get on with it.

I didn't take photos as I went, a) it's fiddly and a bit messy and b) it's a load of little stamps and some ink, so not in itself very exciting.  I do, however, have a few photos of my first attempts.

These are strips just under 2" wide, cut the full width of the fabric. I'm not necessarily expecting to keep them this long.  Each one has a colour definition, from my lovely Webster's.

I don't want the lettering to stand out too much, so played around trying to get the shades right, ie visible but not overpowering and on that basis some of these, for me, are more successful than others.

This took  me all afternoon, so a slow process, but here's a final shot, of where they might end up.

I knew exactly where those words came from the moment I saw your photo! What a great choice. While I like inspirational phrases, they always seem overplanned if I use them. These are interesting and more... natural, purposeful. You made another good choice to no match the definition to the fabric color. Lots of thoughtful ideas. Thanks.

You are right, Ann, that is the tricky thing about words. These are a good balance! Kaja, I hope you will post in future about the ink or paint you've used. It looks great, and it's nice to see some close ups of that beautiful shot cotton, too.

I'll be back in a few days with my link. :D

What fun to see you circling back to those (equally interesting) earlier posts and pulling it all together! I had a feeling there was something special brewing with these stripey circles!

And your circle quilt just became even better. Love your idea. I haven't stamped, colored, stenciled, color penciled or used markers on fabric for awhile and you just gave me the urge.

The fabric colours and your stamped letters are just wonderful and adding one to the circles is an amazing idea .

I realize that I forget to write comments to you as you do not put a link in the page! But your project really is wonderful. It's super the way your fabric and typed made fabric goes together. And the placement and design of the blocks really seems so natural - like it's hard to imagine anything else being done.

I LOVE what you are doing with ink!!!! Was the ink very expensive?

Oh that's inspired! I wondered why you'd used the US spelling of grey...the Webster's explains it! The letters seem to be the perfect size too - serendipity :)

I love how you're using the letter set, and your circles are beautiful.

Brilliant! No, really! The colors and definitions are perfect for the fabrics and once you mix the strips in with your circles, it does look as though it was all meant to be this way. This quilt is already perfect but I know you...more to come! I can barely wait.
