Filling in the blanks

Most of my slow Sunday stitching is actually quilting, but I will also do a bit more on the denim.  I have carried on adding little patches along with the stitching and am like them a lot (not to mention using up some scraps).  This week's job is to fill in some of the big areas still untouched.  I keep thinking I will leave some blank spaces, but when I've tried this they haven't looked quite right: more unfinished than deliberate.  I still like the idea though, so will keep fiddling about trying to get it right.

Love the lines of close stitching. And those small patches of colorful fabric is beginning to have a different feel--more deliberate and intentional. I think it has something to do with the matching colors and the small size. Whatever it is, it works really well.

I'm not sure why you feel the open areas don't work--unless it's that some are still rather large. But honestly, the smaller open spaces work really well from my point of view. They have a restful, calming quality. I just assume that you haven't gotten to the larger spaces yet but will eventually. I really love this piece and seeing the work bit by bit is truly inspiring. Keep going!

This project is really growing! I love all the stitching in the darker patches! The stitches really play off the bits of prints that you have added here and there!

I really like how this project is progressing. The change in directions of your hand sewing are especially interesting to me.

I like how you are just figuring it out as you go along.

My goodness this is just so beautiful - your quilting in the pinks and the soft colour of the fabric scraps turns these denim pieces into a wonderful piece of art!

Looks like some fiddling fun! Yes, keep on fiddling. I like fiddle music.

What a great project...just let your creativity flow with the thread!

Could it be you should change to a much heavier weight thread in blue to offset the open spaces? Not sure. Just occured to me.

Had you thought of using other types of stitch to compliment the cross stitches, e.g. feather stitch is a very trad. stitch in patchwork. It would give a wider line.

Will you be embroidering over some of the print fabrics as well? The texture just makes me want to reach out and touch it! It's coming on so well :)

Kaja, it's amazing how beautiful this is to look at - the closer the better! (It comes into my email as a much larger photo.) I especially love how your stitches look against the darker denims.
