Charley Harper, done and dusted

This was in fact my last finish of 2014.  I just scraped in, finishing the binding on the 31st.  This means I completed 4 quilts in a year, which is the most ever, even if it's a tiny number compared to many.

Charley Harper: named for the American modernist artist. If you don't know his work, do go and check it out here.  He is best known for his nature prints which are beautifully minimalist and have been put to good use by Birch in a range of fabrics that includes the nuthatch I have used here.

The complete quilt is not huge, measuring 56" x 70".  I used two of the Birch line: the nuthatch and a print with swallows (which you can see here).  Also two Kaffe Fassett stripes, some Oakshott plains, a grey Grunge and some bits and pieces. I used wool wadding, and quilted with perle.  The binding is Kona Grellow (I think!)

I started this on March 19th, finished December 31st, though I was not working on it all that time, as it was sitting in the quilting queue.

I'm linking up with Sew Cute Tuesday at Blossom Heart Quilts and Let's Bee Social at Sew Fresh Quilts and TGIFF Friday, this week over at Quilt Matters.

Grellow, what a great color name!! Love the detail work you showed in the first photo. I think 4 quilts in a year is just fine. Thinking back and updating my "my finished quilts" page I don't have many more than that either. It's also more important that you love what you make than pump out more quilts than the average person would know what to do with!

It looks great, and I like the name for the quilt even though I know you were still wondering if a better one existed. :)

It's gorgeous Kaja, congratulations! 4 finishes is just fantastic - quality, not quantity :) (I'm not sure I actually finished any in 2014…can't think straight at this time of the morning!) Really love the way you used different colour thread around the motifs, must've taken some time too. What was the wool wadding like to use? I discovered they sell it at my local store and am tempted to try it out next time - expensive option, but it sounds so warm and snuggly. x

Charley Harper is wonderful. I've enjoyed watching him develop, reading about your thought process and decision points. Thank you so much for sharing.

Four finishes is great! I think I may have one year near that productive in my 12+ years of quilting. :O Love the quilting around the nuthatch!

Four is great. It's not a race or a contest.
I love the graphic look the print gives the quilt from a distance, then the fun of seeing it is a bird up close.

I'm glad I stopped in to look! I love the attention to color in your quilting. This is such a sweet print and it made a really neat quilt. Quality of work counts more than quantity in my book, so 4 in one year at your level is a lot accomplished.
